I love the Italian illustrator Nicoletta Costa. About her graphic style, most of all I like the mountains: their round shapes, the palette of the green shades and the small decorations of the backgrounds – strips, waves, lace and small flowers – that remind me so much a patchwork quilt.
I discovered her with the first books given to my son. In my opinion, the pairing between the imaginative stories by Gianni Rodari and the vivid illustrations by Nicoletta Costa is truly irresistible.
A tiny little book that I love: L’omino della pioggia, in Italian, by Gianni Rodari, illustrated by Nicoletta Costa.
Over the time, her illustrations inspired me the decoration of the nursery bag for my son that I have then embroidered with his name, and for my daughter accessories and decorations of her bedroom: a “countryside” bumper for her cot/cot-bed, a cloud-cushion and a sun-cushion.

I also made a bunting in the shades of pink, and soft stuffed animals coordinated with her duvet cover: an owl and a kitten.
For the wall decoration of the bedroom I used wall stickers found online: a tree with coloured leaves, fliying birds and butterflies, plus little monkeys and owls on the branches on a uniform background of a matt emulsion paint. I chose soft truffle
shade.
