Depending on the age, they will have fun weighing the ingredients, mixing them, pouring the dough into the buns and then decorating the muffins when cooled.

Ingredients

  • 250 g plain flour
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 100 g melted butter (or 80 g oil)
  • 1 egg
  • 200 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 100 g chocolate chips

  • 2 spoons

Mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder (step1).

Add the wet ingredients: melted butter, egg, milk (step2).

Mix gently (step3).

Place spoonfuls (step6) of the mixture into the prepared muffin tins.

Bake immediately (step7).

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 minutes.

Cool in the tins for some minutes before removing.

Tips

  1. Mix the dry and wet ingredients separately before combining them in the final mixture.
  2. The key of this recipe is to not over-mix the batter.
  3. Use the “two spoons” method to pour the mixture in the buns.

Variations

  1. Blueberries muffins: replace the choc chips whit blueberries and add them to the dry ingredients.
  2. Chocolate muffins: replace 50 g of flour with cocoa, add 50 g sugar (150 g in total).
  3. Apple and cinnamon muffins: replace the choc chips with one chopped apple and one teaspoon of cinnamon; add them to the dry ingredients.
  4. Banana muffins: replace the choc chips with 1 mashed banana and add it to the wet ingredients.
